Overall, my experience with GenealogyTour.com has been excellent. My researcher Karolina was timely in her responses, communicated clearly when translating found information, organized, and professional.
After researching with tools available online, I ran into roadblocks resulting in unnecessarily wasting time. A major issue was I did not speak or read the Rusyn language and had little understanding of the Eastern European culture.
Karolina bridged that gap by finding information I would never have found. Clearly, her expertise significantly advanced my research.
There were two projects, one each for maternal and fraternal grandparents who were born in what now is Southern Poland. Most information was found and translated from church records.
Lessons learned: 1) Do enough research yourself and be prepared with specifics when engaging professional help. 2) As information is uncovered, know how far back and wide to research. 3) Ask questions. 4) How valuable is your time? Will $300 or $600 for professional help be too expensive? From my experience it is money well spent.
Room for improvement – names and pertinent information are translated from documents and presented in a final report.
Many times the family connection is confusing in text (i.e. death of a spouse and remarriage) and would be helpful for GenealogyTour.com to illustrate the result in a family tree format.
