Jewish Heritage Journey – Polish Tour

DAY 1 – 3 JUNE / 14 SEPT, 2025

We meet you at the airport in Warsaw.
After checking into a hotel we invite you for an introductory walk around the Old Town of Warsaw The center of the city was destroyed in nearly 85% during WW2 but was carefully and beautifully rebuilt and it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We walk along the elegant street of Krakowskie Przedmieście admiring the Presidential Palace, see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Saski park.

DAY 2 4 JUNE / 15 SEPT, 2025

After breakfast, we start exploring Jewish heritage of Warsaw. We visit the Polin Museum (Museum of the History of Polish Jews) in Warsaw – a place that promotes tolerance, dialogue and is a center of education about a 1000-year-old history of Polish Jews. Later we move to the former Ghetto area where we can find out more about this place. The day ends by the Nozyk Synagogue the only surviving prewar Jewish house of prayer in Warsaw.

DAY 3 5 JUNE / 16 SEPT, 2025

In the morning we check out and leave Warsaw. On the way to Lublin, we have a break in Kazimierz Dolny. This charming place located by the Vistula river has a lot of cultural heritage and was once regarded the most distinctly Jewish town in Poland. It used to be a significant trade place and an important Jewish center called an “ideal shtetl”. Later, we continue driving and spend the evening in the old town of Lublin having a relaxing time on a charming market square.

DAY 4 6 JUNE / 17 SEPT, 2025

Today, we have a full day for sightseeing Lublin. It used to be called Polish Jerusalem because of a very high development of Jewish community. During the late 18th century, Lublin became a center for Hasidism. We follow the historical footsteps of Jewish presence such as Chachmei Lublin Yeshiva – once, one of the largest yeshivas in the world! In the afternoon we visit Majdanek – a German concentration and extermination camp built on the outskirts of the city.

DAY 5 7 JUNE / 18 SEPT, 2025

We leave Lublin and head south. During the day we stop in the Old Town of Zamość, a Renaissance gem, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along the way we must also admire the building of 18th-century synagogue in Szczebrzeszyn and the reconstruction of the wooden synagogue in Biłgoraj (the only one in Poland!). Before the evening begins we enter the historic region of Galicia and get to our place for an overnight in Łańcut.

DAY 6 8 JUNE / 19 SEPT, 2025

Today, we visit The Łańcut Castle – one of the most beautiful aristocratic residences in Poland. Next to the castle, there is a rare surviving example of the vaulted Baroque synagogues from 1761.
After lunch, we have go to Markowa to explore The Ulma Family Museum of Poles Saving Jews in World War II.
On the way back we visit the grave of the famous Tzaddik Elimelech in Leżajsk.

DAY 7 – 9 JUNE / 20 SEPT, 2025

First, we go to a nearby city of Rzeszów, where we stop by the old synagogue and take an opportunity to follow the underground route underneath the Market Square.
After lunch we move further west to Tarnów. Jews began to settle there as early as in 15th century. We explore the Old Town and see Jewish streets, remains of the synagogue with the original bimah, the Jewish cemetery. In the afternoon we reach Kraków.

DAY 8 – 10 JUNE / 21 SEPT, 2025

Today, we start exploring the former capital of Poland. Cracow is one of the most significant cultural centers in our country and an outstanding example of mediaeval architecture. First, we explore the biggest market square in Europe and the Royal Wawel Castle. Then we move to the Jewish district called Kazimierz which owes its unique character to over 500 years of Jewish tradition. Later, we visit the Oskar Schindler’s factory that is nowadays a modern museum.

Overnight: Kraków, 3* or 4* hotel in the Jewish Quater.

DAY 9 – 11 JUNE / 22 SEPT, 2025

Today, we have a day trip to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum (Oświęcim). We visit this important historical area, that allows us to recapture on the horrors that occurred there during the WW2. It is an important memorial to the victims of the genocide.
Before we get back to Krakow we stop in the only survived synagogue in Oświęcim where we have a chance to pray and learn more about the regular life of Jews in that town over the centuries.

DAY 10 – 12 JUNE / 23 SEPT, 2025

In the morning we leave Krakow and drive to Częstochowa where we visit the former Ghetto, the former camp of the ammunition factory HASAG-Apparatebau (Pelcery) and an outstanding old Jewish cemetery established in 1799. Then we move to the town of Piotrkow Trybunalski – the town that for many years was a center of Hebrew publishing in Poland.
At the end of the day, we get to the city of Łódź (known also as Litzmannstadt).

DAY 11 – 13 JUNE / 24 SEPT, 2025

Łódź used to be one of the largest Jewish communities in Europe. Therefore there is quite a lot to see there: the Izrael Poznański Palace, the famous Piotrkowska Street (one of the longest commercial thoroughfares in Europe), the only synagogue that survived till presen t times, the Marek Edelman Dialogue Centre, the biggest Jewish Cemetery in Europe, and the Litzmannstadt Ghetto.
In the late afternoon we go back to Warsaw.

DAY 12 – 14 JUNE / 25 SEPT, 2025

This is your last day in Poland, unless you decide to extend your trip. It’s time for packing, relaxing and getting some souvenirs before departing our country with a piece of Poland in your heart. Transport to the airport will be provided.
